New inputs = new outputs

by Leigh / Friday, 20 January 2023 / Published in Business, Personal

In yesterday’s Exponential Possibilities, we kicked off 2023 with a creativity-boosting session from house Futurist, Craig Rispin. He brought us a taster of just some of the extraordinary and innovative tech featured at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the US, from which he has recently returned.

This event is known as ‘The Most Influential Tech Event in the World’ and is the stage on which new and cutting-edge tech is put on show for consumers.

It’s always an interesting experience, being exposed to new thoughts, ideas, realities, possibilities and the new ways in which these are being brought to life. The feeling of the mind stretching to accommodate new information and how that applies to ourselves, our lives and our businesses is not always comfortable, however as time passes and we’re given more opportunities to be creative in our lives and businesses, we recognise it as an it is an undeniably valuable process.

The principle that ‘new inputs = new outputs’ is a key to unlocking our own creativity, meaning that our exposure to new information provides new possibilities, perspective and knowledge which moves us into fresh thinking.

Another way to look at it is this:

“Creativity is always recombinatory — it’s the product of novel information bumping into old ideas to produce something startlingly new.” Jack Rode

Taking the opportunity to expose ourselves to new information and ideas is a great way to maintain mental flexibility and to bring into sight solutions, dreams and ideas that may have previously been just outside of our field of vision.
