Did you find it necessary to get more hands-on in certain projects over the past 18 months?
And how are you going with moving out of the role, and letting your team take over now that industries are starting to come back online?
In today’s Meeting of the Titans, the Member in focus shared his challenges with extracting himself from just this situation, having stepped in as a driver in new areas of his business, in order to successfully navigate the rapidly changing landscape.
Now with things beginning to return to a more ‘normal’ state, he is attempting to change focus and hand over the projects he’s been working on – except he shared that the experience he is having feels like he is passing the ball and there’s no one there to catch it.
It occurred to him very quickly during today’s session, that his Team felt that he owned this particular project and was passionate about it. Whereas, he had only worked on it so fervently because he needed to pivot the business during an intense time.
He realised that he had thought, but never actually expressed, that he was totally happy for them to run with a better idea on something, or even change it completely, which was potentially stopping them from stepping in and taking it over from him, as they saw it as his baby.
Sometimes it pays to state what may seem like the obvious, as it may not be obvious to the people we are hoping will assist us.
Although we may be communicating what we want completed, if we’re not communicating why we want it completed, we can end up feeling like we’re going to drop the ball, instead of supporting our Team to be perfectly positioned to make the catch
